Sheryl Underwood is an American comedian, actress, and television host. Underwood started her career as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s and went on to perform on various comedy shows and venues.
In 1992, Underwood won the crown of Miss Black America, and later, she was a regular panellist on the daytime talk show, “The Talk,” from 2011 to 2021.
She has also appeared on several television shows, including “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” and “The Parkers.” Underwood has also hosted BET’s “Comic View” and “The Sheryl Underwood Show.”
Aside from her entertainment career, Underwood is also known for her philanthropy work. She is an advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness and is the founder of the Sheryl Underwood Foundation, which provides support to individuals affected by the disease.
She and her twin sister were premature and placed in an incubator shortly after birth; her twin died soon afterwards.
Underwood has two other siblings: her brother Michael and her older sister Frankie.
Her sister, Frankie, was diagnosed with polio. Frankie, who has developmental delays, requires around-the-clock care, which was provided for years by Underwood and her brother. As an adult, Underwood stated that she pays for her sister’s care.
